Brief Description I strive for healthy piano playing technique by providing education and other preventative measures to lower the risk of playing-related musculoskeletal disorder (PRMD). For those who already have PRMD, I aim to analyze the cause of discomfort and find a solution to bring you back to playing as soon as possible without compromising the quality of your playing *. I will also collaborate with your primary healthcare professional to find the best solution. * Note that my service should not be a substitute for professional healthcare.

Brief Description For over 30 years I've been working in the arts. Since 2005 I have directed hundreds of actors in trauma-based educational dramas under contract with Western University and the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children in London, Canada. In 2016 I began training as a psychotherapist to further enhance my collaboration skills with actors. During this time I spent three years as a placement therapist under clinical supervision working one-to-one with clients with complex PTSD, anxiety and depression. To date I have obtained certificates from UKCP and BACP accredited institutes in the United Kingdom in humanistic integrative counselling, psychodynamic integrative counselling, psychodrama, and in the USA the Therapeutic Spiral Model - level 1 (recognized by the ABEPSGP). The intersection of my five years of psychotherapy training and directing trauma-based narratives created the seedbed for ACES (Actualizing Characters by Expanding Self-awareness), a process I developed for actors that safely and ethically expands the actors capacity for embodying distressing emotions in character portrayals while prioritizing their own well being.

Brief Description I am a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (Level 2). I have a Masters of Counselling from the University of Queensland, and a Bachelor of Human Services from Griffith University. I was a dancer who sought after a professional career, reaching pre-professional level and various audition tours. I faced numerous and constant mental battles throughout this journey as many dancers do, so decided to leave the industry and create a space where dancers would be supported as they endure these hardships. Dancers deserve services that understand the demands the industry ask of them, so I have provided a service that offers primarily counselling but also other forms of mental health support specifically for dancers.

She is the Physiotherapist for Australasian Dance Collective and works as the cover Physiotherapist for Queensland Ballet. Grace offers dance and pre-pointe assessments for dancers looking to progress to pointe, to further their dance technique or to stand out in an audition. Further training has enabled Grace to also work in the specialised area of vocal physiotherapy assessment and treatment. She understands the importance of the mechanics of the voice and neck in musical theatre performers, singers, public speakers and musicians. Grace is a qualified pilates instructor in both matwork and equipment, attaining her certification through the Pilates Institute of Queensland in 2014 and completing extra training in this area for dancers in 2017. Grace has trained in many styles of dance including ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, aerial and pole dance. She completed exams in the RAD ballet syllabus up to Advanced 2 and holds a CSTD jazz teachers’ certificate. This background, alongside experience treating professionals in musical theatre, enables her to have a good understanding of the demands of a professional performer and what is required of them to achieve at their optimal level. She is enthusiastic about athletes, dancers and performers reaching their full potential and believes the RehabFit classes offered at RMPhysio are a useful adjunct to consider in any rehabilitation program. Her approach to treatment is holistic incorporating education, manual therapy, dry needling, exercise prescription and clinical pilates.

I also have a background in performing arts; I studied music performance and worked professionally as an independent artist for a number of years. I’ve also completed two research projects, one exploring work stress and wellbeing in singer-songwriters, and another in which we designed and tested a group therapy program for music performance anxiety. I currently work as a psychologist in private practice and have a particular interest in working therapeutically with performers and artists, to help them build resources and resilience for a sustainable career in the performing arts. This includes understanding and managing mental health and wellbeing in the context of the unique challenges posed by such a career.

Brief Description I have worked closely with instrumentalists, vocalists and performing artists of all kinds for many years as a performer and an educator. Working with performers to help them to take care of themselves through a deep understanding of technique, process and breathing through Alexander Technique allows for a greater freedom of expression and comfort. It also allows for greater career longevity within the performing arts. Most of all, working with artists is what I love to do. I started out as a classical guitarist and continue to work as a performer, conductor, educator and collaborative artist within the field.

Biographical Info

Description Meredith is an Alexander Technique teacher, and a member of the Australian Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (AUSTAT). An educational process, Alexander technique empowers the student to understand and coordinate their whole body to reduce tension. Meredith encountered Alexander Technique as a performer and was so impressed by the way it helped her with guitar related injuries that she undertook formal training in the Alexander Technique in 2017. Yoga, exercise and other training can alleviate many problems for musicians – but there is something essential missing. Alexander Technique can expand our awareness to our whole selves, and when that awareness of the “use of the self” is present, it can be applied to every form of physical task, from washing the dishes to ballet.

I will be tracking their concept development, comparing it and modeling it with educational theory to develop a process that others can use when working with adolescents. The process developed will be in line with current cognitive, behavioural, and practical theories so educators and facilitators can best assist their students/dancers in developing their original dance works.
