Biographical Info Brenton Surgenor is an educator, artist-researcher and dance scientist from New Zealand. His career has taken him all over the globe. As a dancer he has worked with choreographers and companies in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. As an educator, he has taught across undergraduate and graduate programmes at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, New Zealand School of Dance, Auckland University, Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance and LaSalle College for the Arts. Brenton has a broad education background with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (Otago University, 1990) along with Master’s Degrees; Dance Studies (Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance, 1996); Dance Science (University of Wolverhampton, 2016); and Counselling (Monash University, 2018). In addition to being a qualified psychotherapist, Brenton is certified to teach strength and conditioning, Pilates, Yoga and Franklin Method. He incorporates these along with other somatic techniques in his teaching. Brenton is a member of the education committee for the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS).
